Athenaeum
In Classical Athens, the Athenaeum was a gathering area where scholars, poets, and playwrights came to create and to read aloud their works, and where teachers came to instruct eager students. When St. Paul visited Athens, as mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles, most scholars felt that he visited the Athenaeum.
Later, one of the premier Catholic universites in the United States, Notre Dame, chose the same name for its library. Today, the word has come to mean a literary or scientific association and a building housing a library, periodicals, newspapers, and areas for quiet individual and public group study.

The John Paul II High School Athenaeum is a state-of-the-art, wireless multimedia center housing a broad collection of print resources, as well as a wide variety of online databases and eBooks. The Media Specialists work closely with students to build information literacy and with teachers to support learning programs at John Paul II High School. Opportunities for reading promotion and enrichment are provided by guest authors and participation in the John Paul II High School Book Club. The Athenaeum’s virtual library is accessible twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week through the Athenaeum website.
