A: Yes, Service hours will need to be completed and turned in each quarter. Students will receive a quarterly grade for the completion. Failure to complete the quarterly requirements could result in academic ineligibly.
Q: Where can the students do his/her hours?
A: You have many options. We ask the student to first go to our website www.johnpauliihs.org, go to the Christian Service link. There is a pop up menu, select the Christian Service Opportunites to see a calendar. The students are not limited to only those listed. They may also find the opportunities on their own. We recommend the students do the hours with their family, church or as a group activity with adult supervision.
Q: Does the student have to do those service opportunities listed on the website?
A: No, we understand that there students transfer in from all over the Metroplex. We suggest you first begin in your place of worship, contact your youth minister or your outreach coordinator. Students are welcome to find there own service opportunities.
Q: Do summer hours count for the school year?
A: Yes, summer hours will count towards the upcoming school year. If you're not sure if an activity falls under the REACH program please contact Coach Olivares for approval.
Q: Do the hours have to fall under the letters of REACH? Do they have to be exactly the same amount hours for each letter?
A: Yes, we would like you to dabble in each of the letters. No, the number of hours do not have to be the exact in each category. Some organizations need little help while others need more; therefore, we know that all hours from each letter will not be exact. Some opportunities might fall under more than one category. Only 50 % of the required hours can come from any one category.
Q: Does the student have to complete hours in all of the REACH categories?
A: No, we encourage the student to complete hours in mutiple categories.
Q: Can students do their hours with a friend, family members, through their youth ministry, church group?
A: Of course!! We, also, encourage our students to build community and do it through their school clubs, organizations (Booster, sports, band, theater, PALS, Student Council, Leadership, Honor Society, etc.), with a church group, or with family.
