Community Service

Why do we serve? Living out our motto, “Seek to Serve”, students witness our Catholic faith by serving the last, the lost, and the least among us. Inspired by the Holy Spirit and guided by Catholic Social Teaching, they engage with those in need in our community, becoming Christ for others. Along the way, students discover their talents and gifts and how they can use them to build up the body of Christ for the greater glory of God.

All students are required to complete 3 service experiences per school year by the deadline of May 1st.  A service experience should be a minimum of 90 minutes serving with an organization and doing a type of work approved by our Community Service Coordinator.

Students must still log hours through our service database, Mobileserve for tracking and awards purposes.  When they log hours, they must also include the outcome that best fits the work they were doing and explain why.

Outcomes
  1. Build solidarity - see God in everyone/every situation
  2. Shine Christ’s light - spread joy
  3. Be a voice for the voiceless - advocate for others
  4. Be Christ’s healers - be God’s healing instrument
  5. Be stewards of God’s gifts - care for God’s creation

Students can earn the following special awards that reflect their commitment to serving others as Christ serves:

Service Recognition Award

Students who serve a minimum of 30 hours each academic year are awarded the Service Recognition Award, given at the end of year Academic Awards Ceremony.

Service Honor Cord

The Service Honor Cord is awarded upon graduation to students who have demonstrated their passion for service by going above and beyond in the community. Qualifications for the award are as follows:

  • Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors: 200 hours by Senior year.
  • Seniors: 120 hours by Senior year (due to COVID-19 Pandemic).

Seek to Serve Award

This award reflects the highest honor a student can receive for their commitment to serving others as Christ serves.  Awarded to only one student per academic year, this award is given to a student who goes above and beyond, in quantity, quality, commitment, and leadership in their service to those in need.
